I Am New
Things every new person should know:
What We Believe
St. Paul Westport is a remarkable congregation where the traditional, contemporary, sacramental and spirit-filled converge. We are a church that actively works TO KNOW CHRIST AND TO MAKE CHRIST KNOWN as exhorted to by the Apostle Paul (our namesake) in Ephesians 4 ”…to equip the saints to build up the body." Just as Paul received this direction from the Lord Jesus and passed it on to the early church, so we also are encouraged to build up the present day church. St. Paul Westport is a modern day Antioch church, seeking to do the Jesus’ work today by feeding the poor, taking care of widows and encouraging the lost to find Him. At our very core is our whole-hearted belief in the Great Commission of Matthew 28.
We have also been blessed with a heavenly directive to be a HOUSE OF HEALING. The scriptures (Acts 10:37-38) tell us that when Jesus came up out of the Jordan River, he immediately began a ministry of doing good deeds and healing people of their physical, emotional, social and spiritual illnesses. We believe that as the Body of Christ, we are to continue Christ’s ministry today. St. Paul Westport offers a healing touch to everyone who comes broken and desiring of Jesus Christ.
St. Paul Westport is Committed to:
The proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ as based on God's Word (Romans 1: 16-17) is the standard that guides all sermons at St. Paul Westport. It is God's Word to our ears.
The early church studied the teachings of the apostles to develop a sense of what God would have them do in relationship to their Christian walk. St. Paul Westport studies the Scriptures to learn about God's will and call to obedience for today’s walk.
Worship is always directed toward God for praise, adoration and exaltation. Our goal is worship the Triune God. We focus on singing, prayers, scripture reading, sermons, offerings and the celebration of the sacraments (baptism and communion). We celebrate in the context of a church year that proclaims Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, Ascension and Pentecost.
We distinguish between the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5) that every Christian will produce; the God-given talents (Matthew 25) that are to be consecrated and given back to God for His glory and praise; and the Gifts of the Spirit (I Corinthians 14) that God gives as He wills for the edification of the Body of Christ.
New Testament Age
We believe that the world is sitting on a historical line between the Ascension of Jesus Christ and His return to judge the world. St. Paul Westport is part of a long line of committed believers who give witness to the Gospel (Jesus Christ Crucified and Risen) by the power of the Holy Spirit. Our part in the process is small in comparison to the saints that have come before us and of those that will come after us, but in the context of the here and now, we are an important part of the Kingdom's work today!
When the Apostle Paul, while traveling to Damascus, was confronted by the Lord Jesus, he asked two questions: Who are you? And What do you want me to do? It is essential that every person ask these same two questions. If you have asked the first question and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord, then it is essential that you ask the second question. If you are unsure about what He wants you to do, then your must prayerfully go before the Lord and seek His direction for your life. He will show you what He wants you to do. This is His promise to you.
Arise is a mini version of our late morning service and offers an uplifting and serene approach to worship. Arise features both piano and organ music, creating a unique musical blend of today's tempo and Christian praise. Sharing worship at Arise is a peaceful way of honoring our Father in heaven with our very beginnings.
Shine is a fully-awake brand of church and is the place to get a complete dose of the Spirit of God. The SPW Worship Band brings you into the throne room of God every Sunday morning making our sanctuary a most holy place to be. Like Arise, communion is offered every Sunday, and a full array of childcare and children’s church options are also available.
The hour between Sunday services is devoted to Christian education – Maturing Your Walk With Christ; Confirmation Studies; Identifying Your Spiritual Gifts, etc. Please check with the church office on what classes are available and then join in!
An evening of prayerful surrender and ministry to people who are suffering from physical, emotional or spiritual ailments. God’s presence and peace are His gifts to those who come in search of finding Him on Wednesday nights.
