What is Maundy Thursday?
"Maundy" comes from the Latin word mandatum, meaning "command" or "mandate." It's a reference to the "new command" Jesus issues His disciples in John 13 to love one another as He has loved them. For Maundy Thursday, we walk through the events of that entire day: Jesus' final meal with His disciples, the institution of Communion, praying in Gethsemane, and the betrayal and arrest of Jesus. It all leads to the events of Jesus' crucifixion on Good Friday.
It's a different kind of worship experience, and that's on purpose.
